High School Counselor's Corner
SOPHOMORE CAREER AWARENESS
EVENT: VALEES and Waubonsee Community College are
partnering to provide an opportunity for students to explore career
pathways offered at WCC. On Friday, December 2nd, all
sophomores will be attending the Career Pathways Expo at WCC’s Sugar
Grove Campus where they will be attending two career sessions.
Lunch will be provided.
SENIOR TESTING:
As part of the PSAE last spring, the current seniors took two
Work-Keys tests: Reading for Information and Applied
Mathematics. Seniors will take the third Work-Keys
test, Locating Information, on December 6th.
The Work-Keys tests are scored 1-7. By earning
threes or better on all three exams, students are eligible to receive a
National Career Readiness Certificate that can serve as an additional
credential to present to employers after high school.
FINANCIAL AID NIGHT for LHS
seniors and their parents is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at
Earlville High School. A representative from the
Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) will provide expert advice
on the FAFSA, educational loans, scholarships/grants, and work study.
The night will begin at 6:00 pm in the Earlville High School
Library. Completing your 2011 taxes as early as possible will be to your
advantage since this is the first step in gathering the information you
will need to complete the FAFSA.
PARENT MEETINGS for 8th
grade through juniors will be scheduled in late January to early March.
We will discuss 2012-2013 course selection and planning for the
students’ futures. Look for letters home with your
students after winter break and an email reminder for exact dates and
times.
SECOND SEMESTER begins on
Wednesday, January 4, 2012. Students have the first
three days of the new semester to add/drop classes from their schedules.
Therefore, all schedule changes must be complete by the end of the day,
Friday, January 6th. Updated transcripts, GPAs, and
class ranks will be available about two weeks after we return from
winter break. See Mrs. Livingston for your updated
information.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Livingston
