This summer I encourage all students to take advantage
of their free time in order to get ahead on their post-secondary
planning.
Freshmen: Spend some time this summer
exploring careers. Use your EXPLORE score reports as a jumping off
point. There are also all sorts of interest inventory websites and other
online tools that can help you do this. See Mrs. Edwards for
suggestions.
Sophomores: Dig out your PLAN test
results and spend some time reviewing the suggested areas of
improvement. Begin researching colleges online. It is never too early to
go visit some schools!
Juniors: This is YOUR summer!! The more time and effort you put into your future this summer, the less stressful your senior year will be. Based on recent job shadowing experience, you should have a general idea of what you’d like to do after high school. If you are planning to attend a 4-year university, be sure to visit this summer. Stay overnight if the college has an overnight program. Professors often have more free time during the summer, so be assertive and ask for a meeting with a professor in your intended major. For the schools you like, plan to make a second visit in the fall when students are back on campus. See the list of 25 Questions to Ask a College, also included in this month’s newsletter
Seniors: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! You did
it!! I am so proud of all of you for making the most of this year. For
the students going away to school, spend this summer preparing to outfit
your dorm room. Save all coupons to places such as Bed,
